Gulu, Uganda | UR | A Ugandan lawyer and senior Democratic Party (DP) official is in custody in the town of Gulu for alleged murder.
Francesca Amony, former national secretary of the DP Women’s League, went to Lacor police station in Bardege-Layibi division after she apparently stabbed her husband, Dr Joseph Etuk, to death.
Amony, 34, who also served as a councilor for Pece Division in Gulu City Council, allegedly developed a domestic misunderstanding with her husband on Friday night, October 28, 2022 which led to a fight. She allegedly took a knife and stabbed him.
The deceased was a doctor in the town of Mbarara while the suspect is a lawyer, politician and rights activist.
According to the police, the incident happened at the couple’s home in Keyi ”A” cell of Kabedpong ward, Bardege-Layibi division of Gulu town.
David Ongom Mudong, spokesman for the Aswa River Regional Police, said in a statement on Saturday afternoon that the suspect had surrendered to the police and was currently being held at the West Division Police Station. from Gulu. Mudong explained that preliminary inquiries collected by the police indicate that on the evening of Friday the 28th around 11 p.m., the couple developed a misunderstanding. In the fight that ensued, Amony took a knife and stabbed her husband.
He added that Dr Etuk died while being rushed to Gulu Regional Referral Hospital.
Mudong says a team of homicide detectives went to the scene and recovered the knife.
In 2019, the Gulu High Court convicted Amony of two counts of aggravated torture of his two maids. She was accused of burning her two housekeepers, aged 13 and 17 respectively, with a hot flat iron.
