To make law and legal services more accessible to Indians, Shreya Sharma, 23-year-old lawyer put on the entrepreneurial journey and launched Rest The Case.
Armed with a Bachelor of Laws from Cardiff University in the UKShreya’s first stint with the law was during a summer course on international relations at Harvard University.
Since then, his interest has only grown to learn more about the importance of land law in different countries.

Shreya found that in India it was more difficult to find lawyers and get to the bottom of any legal proceedings than in most other countries. Most Indians have no idea where to start and what type of lawyer they need.
“Finding a lawyer outside India is very easy because things are very systematic, starting with the specific type of lawyer you need. But this is not the case in India,” she says. His history.

First, the startup serves as a media platform that simplifies legalese, deeds, amendments, and other information in the legal field. Second, it provides templates for various legal agreements and contracts that people can use just by adding their names and personal information without any cost.
However, Rest The Case’s primary focus is to connect clients with attorneys with various specializations including adoption, alimony, consumer, banking, bankruptcy, GST, copyright and immigration, among others.
the The legal startup has more than 1,000 lawyers from 180 countries. Although these lawyers are registered to be listed on the platform, they are not full-time employees of the company.
Rest The Case earns its income by helping lawyers improve their profiles. While he ensures a good flow of clients on the platform, he does not charge them anything and only focuses on connecting them with the lawyers.
“That’s because most of the clients who come to us are desperate for legal assistance and to find a lawyer for that, and we don’t want to ask for payment until they do,” she says.
Starting with an initial investment of Rs 3 lakh from his fatherShreya says Rest The Case has handled over 500 cases so far.
The seeded startup taps into the growing legal services market in India, valued at $1.3 billion in 2018. In addition to established law firms, Rest The Case shares the market with others like VakilSearch, NearLaw, Lawyered, Legal Desk, Nyaaya and iProbono.
Having taken the plunge into entrepreneurship at a young age, many people doubt his startup and often see it as a hobby that would die out over time. However, Shreya didn’t pay much attention to it.
Still, earning a client’s trust has been a challenge for the legal startup.
“It’s because people fight very personal battles, and we’ve tried to hold every client on the platform to make sure they know where they are in the legal processes, the lawyers, and understand the process. themselves,” she explains.
She says the Rest The Case website is encrypted to ensure the privacy of all information uploaded and exchanged on the platform.
The young entrepreneur says she is one of the a few lucky women who haven’t really faced gender bias in the market and ensures that his startup does not harbor such biases, especially when hiring.
Shreya ensures that gender is not a factor when integrating people into the team and prioritizes hiring based on merit and skills.
In the future, Shreya hopes to introduce mediations to the platform and claims to be in talks with top mediators in the country to facilitate this service.
