Employment as a child care solicitor/solicitor with North Yorkshire County Council

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Legal and Democratic Services team to support our employees on a wide range of legal matters on behalf of North Yorkshire County Council. We have vacancies for a permanent paralegal officer.

Our team

The Legal Service is part of the Legal and Democratic Services (‘LDS’) within the Chief Executive’s Group. NYCC provides a range of services to the County of North Yorkshire, and the role of the Legal Department is to support the provision by providing a comprehensive and efficient legal service to Principals, Council Executive, Full Council, Committees and Members , and external customers. The nature of the work requires a flexible and versatile approach as it will change from time to time in response to the changing needs of the Council and its developing initiatives. The position is required to work with colleagues and members at all levels of the organization, with external customers and partners, and to manage the performance of staff under their responsibility. The department’s budget depends in part on revenue from external sources and the position must play its part in ensuring successful revenue generation, and in ensuring compliance with the Law Society’s professional standards and obtaining Lexcel accreditation.

The role

We are looking for an attorney who can join our support team to provide legal advice and representation to our clients at the Child and Youth Services Branch regarding matters relating to children. The position requires the ability to provide advice and representation in care proceedings, pre-procedure matters and to answer specific procedural and legal questions. It is also essential that the successful candidate has the ability to undertake research and provide advice on more complex matters involving other operational matters.

The incumbent must have a practicing certificate.
