Less than a week after the Supreme Court gave women across America the middle finger with the repeal of Roe vs. WadePresident Joe Biden is expected to appoint a Republican anti-abortion lawyer to serve as federal judge for life in Kentucky as part of an alleged deal reached with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).

As first reported by The Courier-Journal, Rep. John Yarmuth (D-Ky.), and other sources say Chad Meredith’s finalized nomination is meant to appease McConnell, who will supposedly pledge not to block further federal nominations by the White House Biden. Meredith, a spokesperson for McConnell, and the White House all declined to comment for the Louisville-based publication.

News of the alleged nomination comes as the Biden administration scrambles to address backing down on abortion rights in a way that won’t appear politically polarizing to voters — you know, just in case you thought that. Apparently, this commitment to women’s rights means making sure that a vacancy in the federal courts is filled by someone with a long history of working to eliminate access to abortion for millions of women. Meredith is known to Kentuckians for championing a 2017 state law requiring doctors offering abortions to perform fetal ultrasounds — including showing or describing the image, as well as playing audio of the heartbeat of the fetus – on patients. (This law was upheld by the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in 2019.)

The Kentucky native is also an avowed member of the conservative Federal Society, which includes current Supreme Court justices — and noted deer opponents – Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett among its members.

“Given that a judicial position is not currently open in the Eastern District Court, it is clear that this is part of a larger agreement on judicial appointments between the President and Mitch McConnell,” said Yarmuth at Mail-Journal. “I strongly oppose this deal and Meredith’s nomination for the job. The last thing we need is another hardliner on the bench.
