The head of the legal team representing Dr Ramon Adedoyin, owner of the Hilton Hotel, Ile-Ife, Abiodun Williams, has petitioned the Osun State Police Command, demanding the investigation of a journalist, Oriyomi Hamzat, for cyberbullying and defamation.
Williams, in a petition to state police commissioner Wale Olokode obtained in Osogbo on Monday also called for an investigation into Hamzat’s telephone log, alleging that a police officer was leaking critical information to the reporter about the inquest into the death of Obafemi Awolowo University master’s student Timothy Adegoke at the Hilton Hotel.
The lawyer also said that Hamzat had misled the public and incited the public against law enforcement officials via social media since the investigation into the circumstances surrounding Adegoke’s death began.
The petition read in several parts: “We unfortunately observed that in the video titled ‘More Update on Dr Rahman Adedoyin and Timothy Adegoke Murder Case’ posted on the same channels in November 2021, Mr. Oriyomi Hamzat called someone who appears to be one of your anti-kidnapping squad officers.
“Osun State Command, which in turn has leaked critical information about ongoing police investigations to thousands of viewers around the world.
“This is not only very unprofessional, but it is also an outright act of blatant irresponsibility. We are of the opinion that if Mr. Oriyomi Hamzat’s phone number and call logs make the point. ‘Under diligent investigation, the identities or identities of some of your men who sabotage your laudable efforts in this matter may come to light.
“Finally, sir, we humbly demand that Mr. Oriyomi Hamzat be invited, questioned and that criminal charges be brought against him for defamation, personal injury, cyberbullying, disinformation and public incitement against law enforcement authorities in a manner that can derail police investigations and cause perversion of the course of justice.
