A lawyer-filmmaker detained for sexual assault on a minor

Mumbai: Colaba police have arrested a 53-year-old lawyer and filmmaker for sexually assaulting a minor. According to the police, the defendant took the victim to a hotel for a photo shoot under the guise of giving her a break from modeling and the fashion industry and allegedly touched her indecently.

According to police, on January 7, the victim, a 17-year-old girl from Cuffe Parade, was waiting outside a pizzeria in Colaba with her brother to celebrate her birthday. Suddenly, the accused (name withheld) arrived and started to inquire with her brother.

The accused complimented the girl and introduced himself as a lawyer and a press reporter. After realizing that the girl was a poet and was also interested in modeling, the defendant claimed that he could train her and make her famous. He also called the girl with her mother to her office for a photo shoot.

The next day, when the girl went to her office on Pasta Lane in Colaba, she was shown photos of various models. The accused also claimed that the girl would have a great career in the fashion industry and called her a day later for a photo shoot.

The next day, when the girl went to his office, the accused made her try on different outfits. After realizing there was CCTV in the room, the victim changed in the toilet, as stated in his police statement.

The defendant also took the girl to a hotel in Colaba where he allegedly talked to her indecently about sex and the menstrual cycle and also touched her inappropriately as they rode to the hotel on his scooter .

The girl told the incident to her mother who understood her intentions and decided to approach the police. Shortly after an offense was recorded, we arrested the accused, he is currently in custody, an officer from the Colaba police station said.

The accused was arrested under section 354A of the ICC (criminal assault or violence against a woman with intent to outrage her modesty) as well as relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act .

On his social media profile, the accused described himself as a filmmaker, founder of a law firm and independent editor.
